Under the experimental fact that CO2 critical density variance is small, a molecular
model for critical CO2 is formulated. Based on it, a Rayleigh light scattering descri ption
is developed. The suggested formula for the critical scattering differs from the Ornstein—
Zernike equation in terms of a more complicated angle and correlation length
dependences. The described scattering possesses essential features of the critical
opalescence. For the first time the influence of molecular thermal motions onto the
critical Rayleigh light scattering is explicitly accounted.
